Chapter 14 - THE LAST TRANSFERElena was alive.

For twenty-seven years, everyone had believed she was dead.
Victor had built an entire network around that lie.
The photograph contained a location.
An offshore clinic.
Private island.
No government records.
No public ownership.
We had twelve hours.
Rebecca refused to stay behind.
Mother wanted to come.
Isabella came because the photograph belonged to her family.
And Jasper came because Victor had destroyed everything he had built.
I hated the idea.
But we needed his knowledge.
We reached the island before dawn.
The clinic stood at the edge of a cliff.
Security guards surrounded it.
We entered through the underground service route.
Inside, everything was silent.
Too silent.
Then we found Elena.
She was sitting in a chair.
Older.
Fragile.
But alive.
Isabella froze.
Elena looked at her.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Elena whispered:
"My little girl."
Isabella began crying.
She stepped forward.
Elena opened her arms.
They embraced.
I stood behind them.
Mother looked down.
Rebecca cried silently.
For a few minutes, the world stopped.
Then Elena whispered:
"Victor will come."
"He already knows."
She looked at me.
"Then we have minutes."
She told us the final secret.
Victor had never wanted the ledger.
He wanted something inside it.
A transfer key.
One transaction that could legally transfer control of every hidden Montgomery asset to Isabella.
But the transfer required something else.
A living witness.
Elena.
That was why Victor kept her alive.
That was why Jasper had been ordered to control Isabella.
And that was why our father died.
He had hidden the transfer key from Victor.
Elena had memorized it.
"Where is it?" I asked.
Elena looked at Isabella.
"You carry it."
Isabella frowned.
"What?"
"The necklace."
Isabella touched the small silver pendant around her neck.
She had worn it since childhood.
We opened it.
Inside was a tiny data chip.
The final key.
Victor's entire empire could be transferred.
Not to him.
To Isabella.
He had spent decades trying to steal what was already hers.
Outside, engines roared.
Victor had arrived.
We locked the clinic doors.
Jasper looked at me.
"How long?"
"Eight minutes."
He smiled.
"Good."
"What?"
"That's enough."
The power went out.
Gunfire erupted outside.
Jasper moved toward the hallway.
"What are you doing?"
"Buying you time."
He walked into the darkness.
I grabbed his arm.
"You'll die."
He looked at Isabella.
"I know."
Then he disappeared.
The final battle erupted across the clinic.
Guards fell.
Doors shattered.
Windows broke.
Victor entered the main room alone.
He looked at Elena.
Then Isabella.
"Give me the key."
Isabella held the necklace.
"No."
Victor smiled.
"You have no idea what that key controls."
"I know exactly."
She pressed the chip into the terminal.
The system activated.
Every bank.
Every trust.
Every company.
Every hidden asset.
A message appeared.
TRANSFER AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.
ELENA MONTGOMERY.
Elena placed her hand on the scanner.
TRANSFER CONFIRMED.
Victor's face collapsed.
"No."
The system continued.
ASSETS NOW CONTROLLED BY ISABELLA MONTGOMERY.
Victor lunged.
I intercepted him.
We crashed into the floor.
He fought like a man with nothing left to lose.
Then the police stormed the room.
Victor was finally restrained.
Outside, the island lights came back on.
Isabella stood beside Elena.
The empire Victor had built was gone.
But as the agents led him away, he looked at me.
"Caleb."
I turned.
He smiled.
May you like
"You still don't know who killed your father."
Then he was gone.
