Chapter 2: Truth Beneath the Veil

Instead of confronting Olivia in front of hundreds of guests, Ethan brought Sophie to a quiet bridal suite.
When Olivia entered the room, still wearing her elegant white gown, she froze.
"Sophie?"
The color vanished from her face.
"What is she doing here?"
Ethan stared at her.
"You tell me."
Tears instantly filled Olivia's eyes.
"I was going to explain."
"When?" Ethan asked bitterly. "After the vows? After the honeymoon? After we built a life on lies?"
Olivia collapsed into a chair.
Five years earlier, during college, she had become pregnant after a brief relationship. Terrified and abandoned by Sophie's biological father, she gave birth alone.
Her conservative parents pressured her to keep the child hidden from the world.
When she met Ethan years later, she intended to tell him the truth.
But fear became delay.
Delay became silence.
And silence became deception.
"I loved you," Olivia whispered through tears. "I wanted to tell you so many times."
"Then why hide Sophie today?"
Olivia covered her face.
"My mother said you'd leave me if you found out. She told Sophie to stay hidden until the ceremony was over."
Ethan looked at the little girl sitting quietly beside him.
Sophie hadn't done anything wrong.
She wasn't a scandal.
She wasn't a mistake.
She was just a child who wanted to be loved.
He realized that the deepest betrayal wasn't Sophie's existence.
It was that fear had stolen everyone's honesty.
The wedding coordinator knocked on the door.
"Everyone is waiting."
Ethan closed his eyes.
Then he made the hardest decision of his life.
"Call off the ceremony," he said softly.

Gasps echoed outside the room.
But for the first time that day, the truth stood uncovered.
