Emily was taken to the hospital under military escort.
Doctors photographed every bruise.
Every fingerprint.
Every injury.
The obstetrician's face tightened.
"Your baby is alive..."
"...but another assault could have killed both of you."
Ryan buried his face in his hands.
Linda still insisted Emily had fallen.
Until Detective Sarah Mitchell asked one question.
"Does this apartment building have hallway cameras?"
Ryan froze.
Linda blinked.
Neither of them answered.
Security footage arrived less than an hour later.
Everyone watched.
Ryan dragging Emily by the wrist.
Linda blocking the doorway while Emily cried.
Another clip.
Ryan shoving his pregnant wife hard enough for her shoulder to strike the bedroom wall.
Then the final recording.
Linda calmly handing Ryan a bag of frozen peas...
not to help Emily...
but to reduce the swelling before Colonel Bennett visited.
Nobody spoke after that.
Ryan whispered,
