Chapter 2: The Letters She Never Sent

Backstage, away from the bright lights and roaring crowd, Emma handed Daniel a small metal box she had carried everywhere since her mother's passing.

"My mom said to give this to someone important one day," Emma explained.

Inside were dozens of unopened letters.

Each one was addressed to him.

Daniel carefully opened the first.

Dear Daniel,

I still use your steak recipe, even though I secretly add more garlic than you like.

I miss my brother every single day.

If life ever gives us another chance, I hope you'll forgive me.

Love,
Claire.

By the final letter, Daniel could barely read through his tears.

Claire had never stopped loving him.

She had married, moved away, and raised Emma alone after losing her husband. Pride and fear had kept her from reaching out again.

Months before her death, she had written:

If Emma ever cooks this steak for you, you'll know that every ingredient carries a message I couldn't say out loud.

Family matters more than being right.

Daniel closed the letter and looked at Emma.

"You've been carrying this all by yourself?"

Emma nodded.

"I didn't want Mom's recipe to disappear."

May you like

Daniel gently smiled.

"Then we'll make sure it never does."
