Chapter 6: The Trial
Six months later...
The courtroom was full.
Journalists filled every seat.
Adrian entered wearing the same expensive suit he once wore on magazine covers.
It no longer fit the man inside it.
He looked older.
Smaller.
His attorney argued it had been "a domestic misunderstanding."
Then the prosecution played the video.
No narration.
No commentary.
Just sound.
My head striking the hardwood.
His laughter.
Vanessa clapping.
The courtroom became completely silent.
When the video ended...
even Adrian couldn't look at the screen.
The jury deliberated less than three hours.
Guilty.
Aggravated assault.
Domestic violence.
Reckless endangerment of unborn children.
Witness intimidation.
Additional financial crimes uncovered during the investigation carried their own convictions.
As deputies led him away...

I answered quietly.
"No."
"You lost everything because, for the first time in your life..."
"...someone held you accountable."

He lowered his head.
He never spoke again.
