CHAPTER 3 — The Man Who Buried the Truth
CHAPTER 3 — The Man Who Buried the Truth
The attorney slowly walked forward.
Every step looked heavier than the last.
"I never thought I'd see that necklace again."
The older gentleman's eyes narrowed.
"You know something."
The attorney closed his eyes.
"For twenty-two years..."
"I've carried a secret."
Gasps filled the ballroom.
The attorney removed a weathered envelope from his briefcase.
Its seal had never been broken.
"I was ordered never to deliver this unless both of you were alive."
The older man ripped it open with shaking hands.
Inside...
A birth certificate.
An adoption file.
Hospital records.
And one handwritten confession.
Not from Sarah.
From his own younger brother.
The confession revealed everything.
The mansion fire had never been an accident.
His brother had staged it.
He wanted complete control of the family empire before the old patriarch could rewrite his will.
Sarah had escaped the flames carrying the baby.
Before disappearing forever, she left one instruction:
"If they ever find her...
show them the necklace."
The older gentleman couldn't breathe.
"My brother..."
"He murdered my wife..."
"And stole my daughter."
At that exact moment—
The ballroom entrance opened again.
Security guards rushed inside.
"Sir!"
"We found him!"
Everyone looked toward the doorway.
An elderly man in handcuffs slowly entered.
The older gentleman's own brother.
