Chapter 6: Easter Morning, One Year Later

Chapter 6: Easter Morning, One Year Later

One year later...

The mansion had been sold.

The corruption network no longer existed.

Lily had rebuilt her life.

The bruises disappeared long before the nightmares did.

Recovery took time.

Arthur never rushed her.

Another Easter arrived.

This time...

The smell of coffee filled Arthur's small kitchen.

Lily stood beside him wearing a simple yellow dress.

No makeup hid old scars.

She didn't need to.

Outside...

Children laughed while decorating eggs.

She smiled without hesitation.

For the first time in years...

Her laugh arrived exactly when it should.

She looked at Arthur.

"You saved my life."

Arthur gently shook his head.

"No."

"You survived."

"I just came when my daughter called."

On the kitchen table rested the old satellite phone.

Powered off.

Covered in dust again.

Arthur hoped it would never ring.

Because this time...

May you like

Easter was finally just Easter.

The End.
