Chapter 6: A New Departure

Chapter 6: A New Departure

One year later.

Rachel stood inside Chicago O'Hare Airport once again.

The same terminal.

The same departure board.

The same Gate 42.

Only this time...

Everything was different.

Beside her stood her son and daughter.

Both smiling again.

They were leaving for Italy.

Their first vacation together since the divorce.

No lies.

No secrets.

No pretending.

Her phone buzzed.

A message from Daniel.

"I know I don't deserve forgiveness, but I'm sorry."

Rachel looked at the words for several seconds.

Then she smiled softly.

Not because she forgave him.

Because she no longer needed anything from him.

She deleted the message.

Blocked the number.

Her daughter tugged gently on her sleeve.

"Mom... they're boarding."

Rachel slipped her phone into her pocket.

She took one last look across the terminal.

A year earlier, that airport had marked the end of the life she thought she wanted.

Today, it marked the beginning of the life she finally chose.

She picked up her suitcase.

Reached for her children's hands.

And together, they walked toward the gate.

This time, no one was left behind.

The End.
