Chapter 3: The Perfect Trap

Chapter 3: The Perfect Trap

Rachel hired the best divorce attorney in Illinois.

Then a forensic accountant.

Then a private investigator.

She gave them everything.

Videos.

Financial records.

DNA documents.

The investigator uncovered even more.

Daniel had been telling Sophia he was already divorced.

He claimed Rachel had abandoned him years ago.

Sophia believed every word.

Rachel asked for one meeting.

Not with Daniel.

With Sophia.

The café was quiet.

Sophia arrived smiling...

Until Rachel placed the wedding photos on the table.

Family vacations.

Anniversary pictures.

Christmas mornings.

Each photo carried a recent date.

Sophia's face slowly lost all color.

"He said..."

Rachel nodded.

"I know what he said."

"He told me you disappeared."

Rachel slid another document forward.

"Our joint tax returns."

"He said..."

"I know."

Tears filled Sophia's eyes.

"I didn't know."

Rachel believed her.

Because heartbreak recognizes heartbreak.

The two women left that café with very different goals.

Rachel wanted justice.

Sophia wanted the truth.

Daniel was about to lose both worlds.
