Chapter 2: Ashes of Pride

News traveled faster than wildfire.

By sunrise, videos from the wedding had flooded social media.

The world watched Daniel laugh while shoving a delivery man into a wedding cake.

The world also watched that same delivery man reveal himself as one of the wealthiest men alive.

Public outrage exploded.

Daniel's family's company began losing contracts.

Investors withdrew support.

Friends stopped answering his calls.

But Adrian never once lifted a finger to destroy him.

At least, not directly.

Several weeks later, Daniel requested a private meeting.

Inside Adrian's office, gone was the confident groom who had once commanded attention.

He looked exhausted.

"I've lost everything," Daniel admitted.

Adrian remained silent.

"I know an apology won't fix this," Daniel continued. "But I need to understand. Why did you dress like that?"

Adrian looked out across the city skyline.

"When our father built this family, he taught us one lesson," he said.

"'Character is what survives when status disappears.'"

He finally turned toward Daniel.

"I wasn't testing you."

"I was delivering medicine to an elderly employee's wife because I promised I would."

Daniel lowered his head.

"I became the kind of person I used to hate."

"You became careless," Adrian corrected.

"You forgot that dignity isn't earned through wealth."

For the first time in years, Daniel cried without defending himself.

"What do I do now?"

Adrian's answer was simple.

"Start becoming someone you would respect if no one knew your name."

There would be no shortcuts.

No rescue.

Only responsibility.

Daniel nodded.

For the first time, he understood the true cost of arrogance.
