The man everyone believed had died in a warehouse explosion seven years earlier. Mateo looked over his shoulder. "Impossible." Leo said nothing. Instead, he searched the tiny chamber. Dust coated every surface except one. A small iron box. Inside rested several letters. Each addressed to Leo. None had ever been opened. The first letter began with a sentence that shattered everything he believed. If you're reading this, someone inside your own house has betrayed you. Leo's jaw tightened. The letter described a secret deal made years ago. A rival family had wanted revenge. Not against Leo. Against his unborn child. Antonio had discovered the plot and secretly arranged fake evidence of his own death to investigate from the shadows. He warned that the enemy had placed someone close enough to watch Lily grow. Someone patient. Someone waiting for the perfect opportunity. Mateo looked toward the kitchen upstairs. "Victoria." Leo nodded slowly. "But she wasn't acting alone." Suddenly footsteps echoed above. Then screams. One of the guards burst into the basement. "Boss!" Leo spun around. "What happened?" The man's face had gone completely white. "Victoria..." "She's gone."
