Chapter 15 - The VaultThey reached the attic before the timer expired.

The old Parker house shook from explosions outside.

Ruiz fought Morrow's men in the street.

Daniel and Richard searched the attic.

Claire had been freed.

Adam and Ethan stood beside an old wooden chest.

“The moon never shines here,” Ethan whispered.

They opened it.

Inside was a telescope.

Dust-covered.

Daniel stared.

“Your grandfather loved astronomy.”

Ethan looked through the telescope.

Nothing.

Then he noticed a hidden dial.

He turned it.

The floor clicked.

A section of wood opened.

A staircase appeared.

They descended.

At the bottom was a steel vault.

Daniel entered a code.

Wrong.

Again.

Wrong.

Claire stepped forward.

“Try Ethan's birthday.”

Daniel did.

The door opened.

Inside were boxes.

Photographs.

Audio tapes.

A small black notebook.

Arthur Vale's journal.

Ethan opened it.

The first page contained a sentence.

Victor Morrow does not exist.

The next page revealed the truth.

Morrow was an alias used by Thomas Parker.

For decades.

Thomas had infiltrated political circles under different names.

He had built wealth through blackmail.

His own death records had been fabricated.

And every time authorities came close, he simply became someone else.

But there was one problem.

Arthur had proof.

A confession recorded on video.

They found it.

Arthur sat in a chair.

He looked directly into the camera.

“My name is Arthur Vale.”

He explained everything.

He named judges.

Police chiefs.

Senators.

CEOs.

And finally Thomas.

“I created the monster,” Arthur said.

“And my own family paid for it.”

Ethan stared at the screen.

Then Arthur said something unexpected.

“Thomas is not the greatest danger.”

Daniel froze.

“Who is?”

Arthur looked into the camera.

“The person who inherited my bloodline.”

The video cut.

A second video appeared.

Arthur stared directly into the camera.

“If you're watching this, my grandson has been found.”

Ethan's heart stopped.

“That's me.”

Arthur continued:

“Your blood is the key to identifying every person connected to the organization.”

Ruiz looked at Ethan.

“What does that mean?”

“It means,” Daniel said, “Ethan's DNA can expose everyone.”

A sound came from the vault entrance.

Slow footsteps.

Thomas.

He entered alone.

No gun.

No guards.

Just a smile.

“You found it.”

Richard raised his weapon.

Thomas stopped.

“Before you shoot me, understand one thing.”

He looked at Ethan.

“You have no idea who you're really protecting.”

Thomas threw a photograph onto the floor.

It showed Claire.

Holding a baby.

But the baby wasn't Ethan.

It was Adam.

And beside Claire stood another woman.

Ethan's biological grandmother.

She was wearing the same necklace Claire wore in the hospital.

Ethan stared.

“Who's the woman?”

Thomas smiled.

“Your mother.”

Claire froze.

May you like

Thomas whispered:

“Claire Parker was never your real mother.”
