Chapter 15 - The mansion fell silent.Elena stood before the black screen.

Nobody moved.

Her entire life had been built on lies.

Her father.

Her mother.

Her marriage.

Her inheritance.

Even the staircase where she had almost died.

Everything had been part of a game much larger than she had imagined.

Ruiz finally spoke.

“He's alive.”

Claire nodded.

“He's been alive for decades.”

“Where?”

Claire looked toward Elena.

“Under the city.”

Elena's eyes narrowed.

“The underground network.”

“Yes.”

“Why did he reveal himself?”

Claire answered:

“Because the trust is open.”

Elena looked at the computer.

Thousands of files were loading.

Bank records.

Audio recordings.

Video footage.

Names.

Every secret her family had tried to bury.

And suddenly Elena understood.

Her trap had never been the end.

It had only been the opening move.

The hidden cameras.

The staged fall.

The call to Ruiz.

The memory card.

All of it had exposed Daniel and Vanessa.

But the real target had always been the network.

Her twin had unknowingly led her to the vault.

Her mother had exposed the second layer.

And now the person behind everything had finally stepped into the light.

Elena turned toward Vanessa.

“You knew about the baby?”

Vanessa shook her head.

“No.”

“Why did you work with Daniel?”

“Because he promised to protect me.”

“And my fall?”

Vanessa looked down.

“I was supposed to distract you.”

Elena nodded.

“But you didn't know about the cameras.”

“No.”

Daniel suddenly laughed weakly from the floor.

Everyone looked at him.

“You should all stop pretending.”

Elena walked toward him.

“What?”

He looked at her.

“The person on that screen isn't your grandfather.”

Elena froze.

“What?”

Daniel's smile widened.

“It's a recording.”

Ruiz immediately checked the system.

The timestamp was wrong.

The video had been created yesterday.

Someone had uploaded it remotely.

Elena stared at the screen.

“Then where is he?”

Daniel whispered:

“Closer than you think.”

A sound came from behind them.

The mansion door opened.

Slowly.

Everyone turned.

A man entered.

Old.

Tall.

Elegant.

He wore a dark suit.

His silver hair was combed perfectly.

He smiled.

Elena stared.

Her heart stopped.

She had seen him before.

Not in a photograph.

Not on a screen.

In the mansion.

At her wedding.

At her father's funeral.

Standing silently in the background.

The man looked at Claire.

“It's time.”

Claire lowered her eyes.

Ruiz raised his weapon.

“Victor Hawthorne.”

The man's smile disappeared.

“Detective.”

Elena stepped forward.

“You're Victor.”

“Yes.”

“My biological father?”

Victor laughed.

“No.”

Elena's eyes narrowed.

“Then who are you?”

He looked toward the staircase.

“The man who built this mansion.”

Elena froze.

Victor smiled.

“I bought this house for your father.”

“For my father?”

“No.”

He looked directly into her eyes.

“For you.”

Elena felt the room tilt.

“Why?”

Victor's expression became cold.

“Because your father knew I would eventually come for the child.”

“My baby?”

“Yes.”

“And what do you want?”

Victor stepped closer.

“The master trust.”

“You can't have it.”

Victor smiled.

“I don't need it.”

He reached into his coat.

Elena tensed.

But he pulled out a small photograph.

He placed it on the table.

Elena looked down.

The photograph showed a hospital room.

Her.

Sleeping.

Pregnant.

And beside the bed...

someone was holding her unborn baby's ultrasound.

Elena's blood ran cold.

The photograph had been taken that morning.

Victor looked at her.

“You thought the cameras were your advantage.”

Elena said nothing.

“You thought the staircase was your trap.”

Silence.

“You thought Detective Ruiz was protecting you.”

Victor smiled.

“You were wrong.”

Ruiz's eyes widened.

Victor turned toward him.

“Tell her.”

Ruiz couldn't speak.

Elena looked at him.

“Tell me what?”

Ruiz slowly lowered his weapon.

Then he said the words that destroyed the last piece of Elena's confidence.

“Victor has had access to the mansion's security system from the beginning.”

Elena looked around.

The cameras.

The hidden microphones.

The recorded conversations.

Everything.

Everything she had believed belonged to her...

had also belonged to him.

Victor stepped closer.

“But there's one thing you still don't know.”

He leaned toward Elena.

“You didn't set a trap for Vanessa.”

Elena stared.

“You set a trap for yourself.”

A cold silence filled the room.

Then Victor's phone rang.

He answered.

Listened.

And smiled.

“What is it?” Elena demanded.

Victor looked at her.

“The baby has started moving.”

Elena's hand instinctively covered her stomach.

Victor turned toward the door.

“Prepare the car.”

Two men appeared behind him.

Elena stepped backward.

Ruiz raised his gun.

But Victor's smile returned.

“Don't worry.”

He looked directly at Elena.

“The real trap hasn't even started yet.”

And upstairs, somewhere in the darkness of the mansion...

a hidden camera slowly rotated.

Its red light blinked once.

Twice.

Then a voice came through the intercom.

A woman's voice.

Elena's own voice.

Recorded months ago.

“When the baby is born, kill anyone who tries to stop you.”

Elena froze.

She had never said those words.

But the recording was unmistakably her voice.

Victor smiled.

Because the final weapon against Elena...

May you like

was her own voice.
