Chapter 10 - THE MAN AT MARCUS’S GRAVEKane stood beside Marcus's grave holding a white envelope.

When he saw us, he didn't run.
He just waited.
Titan growled.
Kane smiled.
“Still remembers me.”
I raised my weapon.
“Drop the envelope.”
He did.
Then he lifted his hands.
“I didn't kill Marcus.”
“You were there.”
“Yes.”
“You knew about the ledger.”
“Yes.”
“You planted the tree.”
“No.”
I hesitated.
“Then who did?”
Kane looked at Titan.
“The person who created him.”
I frowned.
“Kane…”
“You think Titan was just a police dog?”
“He is.”
“No.”
Kane slowly shook his head.
“He was trained for a program that never officially existed.”
Cole looked at me.
Kane continued.
“His first assignment involved financial crime investigations.”
“That makes no sense.”
“Exactly.”
He pointed toward the envelope.
“Read Marcus's final letter.”
I picked it up.
Inside was one page.
Mason,
If you're reading this, the wrong people are still alive.
Mercer isn't the architect. He's the shield.
Kane isn't the killer. He's the witness.
And the man you need to fear is the one who taught us what loyalty means.
I stared at the sentence.
My mind raced through every supervisor.
Every instructor.
Every commander.
Then one name surfaced.
Colonel Adrian Shaw.
Former head of the regional K9 program.
He had retired shortly before Marcus died.
He had personally approved Titan's training.
He had also signed my medical report.
The same report that hid my memory loss.
Kane looked at me.
“Now you understand.”
“Where is Shaw?”
“Gone.”
“Where?”
Kane smiled sadly.
“You've already seen him.”
Before I could respond, a sniper shot shattered the cemetery sign.
Kane fell.
Titan pulled me down.
Another shot.
Then silence.
We crawled behind a stone monument.
Kane was bleeding.
“He knows you're here.”
“Who?”
Kane looked at Titan.
Then whispered:
“Shaw.”
Sirens approached.
But Kane's eyes were already closing.
I grabbed his hand.
“Where is Shaw?”
His lips moved.
I leaned closer.
“Home.”
“Whose home?”
He whispered a word.
“Yours.”
I froze.
May you like
Someone had entered my house while we were gone.
And they knew where Titan slept.
