“Play.”

“I don't know this song.”
“You do.”
“No.”
Evelyn leaned down.
“Your mother taught you.”
Chloe shook her head.
“She never taught me this.”
Evelyn smiled.
“Then listen.”
She pressed a button.
A recording played.
Amelia's voice.
“Chloe, if you're hearing this, they have found you.”
Chloe's eyes filled with tears.
“Mom.”
The recording continued.
“Do not trust anyone.”
The melody began.
Chloe slowly placed her fingers on the keys.
Victor watched helplessly.
Then something strange happened.
As Chloe played, the room's screens activated.
Files began appearing.
Bank accounts.
Names.
Transactions.
Secret meetings.
Politicians.
Executives.
Judges.
Police officers.
The entire conspiracy unfolded.
Victor whispered:
“She's decoding it.”
Edward stared.
“Yes.”
But the screen suddenly filled with static.
Then a warning appeared.

Evelyn frowned.
“What?”
Chloe looked at the sheet music.
There was a second page.
A handwritten note.
PLAY THIS ONLY FOR THE PERSON WHO BETRAYED YOU.
Evelyn grabbed it.
“Who?”
Chloe looked toward the camera.
“Grandpa.”
Victor froze.
Edward's face changed.
“Me?”
Chloe nodded.
“Mom said you were the only one who knew.”
Edward stood.
“What did she tell you?”
Chloe began playing again.
A darker melody.
The screens went black.
Then a voice echoed through the room.
Edward's voice.
Recorded twenty years earlier.
“I authorize the transfer.”
Victor stared.
His father's old voice continued.
“Amelia Blackwood will be removed from the system.”
Victor turned toward Edward.
“You did it.”
Edward lowered his eyes.
Victor's rage exploded.
“You took my daughter.”
“I protected the family.”
“You destroyed my family!”
Edward looked broken.
“I was trying to stop your mother.”
Victor shook his head.
“Then why did you sign?”
Edward whispered:
“Because she threatened you.”
Silence.
Chloe continued playing.
Another recording.
Victor's mother's voice.
“You will choose the family over the girl.”
Edward's voice.
“I understand.”
Victor realized the terrible truth.
His father had sacrificed Amelia to save him.
Richard had spent twenty years trying to undo it.
Evelyn had turned the system into a weapon.
And now Chloe stood at the center of everything.
Then the final note rang.
Every screen displayed one sentence.
SUCCESSION COMPLETE.
The lights returned.
The doors opened.
A voice came over the speakers.
“Good evening, Chloe Blackwood.”
Chloe looked around.
“Who are you?”
The voice answered:
“I am the Blackwood system.”
Victor stared.
Edward whispered:
