Chapter 17 - The Final ArchivePeter entered with six armed men.

The woman with the silver triangle stood beside him.
She smiled at me.
"Do you remember me?"
"Yes."
"Good."
She looked pleased.
"I was beginning to worry."
I stepped forward.
"You experimented on me."
"Yes."
"You hurt my mother."
"Yes."
"You killed people."
She shrugged.
"Some."
Maya raised her weapon.
"Don't move."
The woman laughed.
"You have no idea how many people you've already endangered."
Peter looked at Dad.
"This is your final chance."
"To do what?"
"Give me the archive."
Dad smiled.
"You already have it."
Peter frowned.
Dad pointed toward the ceiling.
"The upload started ten minutes ago."
Everyone froze.
Jake grinned.
Maya nodded.
The archive was uploading to dozens of servers around the world.
Peter shouted:
"Kill them!"
Gunfire erupted.
We dropped behind the archive shelves.
Boxes exploded.
Paper filled the air.
Dad returned fire.
Mom crawled toward a console.
I grabbed the keyboard.
The upload was at 37%.
Peter moved closer.
"Evan!"
He pointed his gun at me.
"Stop the transfer."
"No."
"You don't understand."
"People deserve to know."
"People deserve to live."
I looked at the screen.
"Then stop hunting them."
He fired.
Dad stepped in.
The bullet struck him.
Again.
He fell.
"Dad!"
He looked at me.
"Finish it."
I kept typing.
The upload reached 61%.
The woman with the silver triangle approached.
She held a gun to Mom's head.
"Stop."
Mom looked at me.
"Don't."
I knew what she meant.
Don't stop.
I continued.
The woman pulled the trigger.
Click.
Empty chamber.
Maya had disarmed her.
She tackled her to the floor.
Jake fought Peter.
The room became chaos.
The upload reached 88%.
Then Peter appeared beside me.
He grabbed my neck.
"You think truth saves people?"
I struggled.
"No."
"It destroys them."
He threw me against the console.
The upload hit 99%.
Peter raised his weapon.
I saw his face.
His scar.
His eyes.
His crooked smile.
Everything.
Then I remembered the pattern.
The mirror.
I knew exactly where to hit.
I slammed the keyboard into his wrist.
The gun fell.
Jake tackled him.
The upload completed.
100%.
The archive was everywhere.
Peter stared at the screen.
"You've doomed us all."
I looked at him.
"No."
I turned toward the vault door.
May you like
"You just lost control of the story."
Then the police sirens began above us.
