Chapter 10 - The WarehouseDaniel wanted to shoot Richard immediately.

Claire stopped him.

“Wait.”

Daniel looked at her.

“He has Michael.”

“We don't know that.”

“He called him by name.”

“He could have fabricated the video.”

Richard laughed.

“Smart woman.”

Claire glared at him.

“Where is my husband?”

“Where he belongs.”

“That doesn't answer me.”

Richard smiled.

“The same place where your husband started this.”

Daniel understood.

“The Keegan warehouse.”

Richard nodded.

“Midnight.”

“Why wait?”

“Because I want all of you there.”

He looked at Emma.

“And I want the rabbit.”

Daniel stepped forward.

Richard raised a finger.

“Come alone.”

He disappeared into the snow.

Claire looked at Daniel.

“You're not going.”

“Yes.”

“It's a trap.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

“Because if there's even a one percent chance Michael is alive…”

Claire stopped him.

“Michael has been dead for two years.”

Daniel said nothing.

She turned away.

“I saw his body.”

Daniel's face tightened.

“You saw a body.”

She looked at him.

“What are you saying?”

“I'm saying Richard Keegan lies for a living.”

Ethan entered the room.

“We have a bigger problem.”

He held up a photograph.

“Richard wasn't alone.”

The photograph showed several men leaving the warehouse.

One of them was a Chicago police captain.

Another was a federal judge.

Another was a senator.

Claire stared.

“They're all involved.”

Ethan nodded.

“The master file.”

Daniel looked at his brother.

“How do we get it?”

“We don't.”

Ethan smiled.

“We let them think we have it.”

At midnight, Daniel arrived at the warehouse with Claire and Emma.

The building was dark.

Too dark.

The doors opened.

Inside were dozens of men.

Guns everywhere.

Richard stood beneath a hanging light.

A chair sat in front of him.

Michael was tied to it.

Claire cried out.

“Michael.”

His head lifted.

His face was bruised.

But alive.

Claire stepped forward.

Daniel stopped her.

Richard smiled.

“I said come alone.”

“You said bring the rabbit.”

Daniel held it up.

Richard nodded.

“Good.”

He walked toward Emma.

Daniel blocked him.

“Stay away from her.”

Richard laughed.

“You really don't know what she is.”

He took out a small device.

“Look.”

He activated it.

A screen came down.

A DNA sequence appeared.

Claire stared.

“What is that?”

Richard answered:

“Your daughter's blood.”

Daniel's face hardened.

Richard continued.

“The last key.”

Suddenly, Michael spoke.

“Claire.”

She looked at him.

His eyes were full of panic.

“Don't give him the rabbit.”

Richard turned.

Michael continued.

“It's not the file.”

Richard frowned.

Claire looked at Daniel.

Daniel understood immediately.

“The rabbit is a decoy.”

Richard's expression changed.

Too late.

Daniel's men burst through the walls.

Gunfire erupted.

Lights exploded.

Men screamed.

Claire grabbed Emma.

Daniel ran toward Michael.

He cut the ropes.

“Can you walk?”

Michael coughed.

“Yes.”

Claire stared.

“Why didn't you come home?”

Michael looked at her.

“Because I wasn't allowed to.”

“By whom?”

Michael's eyes moved toward Richard.

“No.”

He pointed at Daniel.

“By your brother.”

Claire froze.

Daniel stared at Ethan.

May you like

Ethan raised his gun.

And shot Michael.
