Chapter 11 - The Name She Wasn't Born WithHer entire life had been built on a lie.

Declan spent the night searching records.

Isa sat beside him.

No tears.

No panic.

Only numbness.

At sunrise, he found it.

A sealed archive.

The documents were nearly thirty years old.

He opened the first page.

A photograph.

A young woman.

A baby.

A man.

Isa stared at the woman.

She looked familiar.

Not because Isa remembered her.

Because Isa recognized herself in her face.

"That's my mother."

Declan nodded.

"Her maiden name was Elena Harrow."

Isa looked at the next page.

A family crest.

The Harrow family had once controlled a private financial network that handled billions for European families.

Her father hadn't been a mechanic.

He had been a banker.

And the Vale family had destroyed them.

Isa's mother had escaped.

Her father hadn't.

Isa stared at the records.

"So my name..."

"Was changed."

"Why didn't my mother tell me?"

"Because she thought silence kept you alive."

Isa stood.

"Then why did she finally tell me?"

Declan found another file.

"Because someone found her."

They called Atlanta.

No answer.

Again.

Still nothing.

Then a voicemail arrived.

Her mother's voice.

"Isa, don't trust anyone."

A pause.

"Not even him."

Isa's blood ran cold.

The message ended.

Declan stared at the phone.

"She means me."

"Maybe."

He looked at her.

"Do you believe her?"

Isa took a long breath.

"I don't know."

That was the first time distance truly entered their relationship.

For two days they barely spoke.

Then Declan disappeared.

No message.

No explanation.

Isa panicked.

His assistant found her.

"He went to meet Victor."

Her blood froze.

"Alone?"

"Yes."

She grabbed her coat.

"No."

The meeting took place beneath an abandoned railway station.

Victor waited beneath flickering lights.

Declan arrived alone.

"You've made this difficult."

"You abducted Isa's mother."

Victor smiled.

"I gave her back."

"You framed Isa."

"I tested her."

"You shot at us."

"You weren't supposed to survive that."

Declan's jaw tightened.

"You want the ledger."

"I want what your grandfather stole."

Declan stepped closer.

"Isa doesn't have it."

Victor smiled.

"Then you should ask her what she dreams about."

Declan froze.

"What?"

Victor leaned closer.

"She was three when she saw the ledger."

Impossible.

"She doesn't remember."

"Children remember things adults think they've forgotten."

Victor pulled out a photograph.

A little girl.

Isa.

Standing beside an old safe.

And behind her...

Richard Vale.

Declan stared.

"Why was she there?"

"Because your grandfather trusted her father."

Victor smiled.

"That's the mistake that started all of this."

Declan's phone rang.

Isa.

He answered.

"Where are you?"

Her voice shook.

"I found something."

"What?"

"I remember the safe."

Silence.

"Isa..."

"It was under the house."

"What house?"

She whispered:

"The house where my father died."

Then the line went dead.

Declan ran.

Because suddenly he understood.

The ledger had never left the family.

May you like

Isa's father had hidden it inside the place where everyone believed he died.

And someone had just found the key.
