Chapter 3 - The Woman in WhiteSarah wanted to run toward her mother.

Instead, she stood frozen.

The woman looked older than Sarah remembered.

Much older.

But the eyes were the same.

The same green eyes Sarah had seen every morning when she was little.

The woman reached for her.

“Don't shout.”

Sarah covered her mouth.

Tears filled her eyes.

“How?”

Her mother shook her head.

“There's no time.”

“I thought you were dead.”

“I was supposed to be.”

Sarah stared at her.

“What does that mean?”

Her mother glanced toward the camera.

“The house listens.”

Sarah looked up.

“You mean CCTV?”

“More than that.”

A metallic sound echoed through the corridor.

Her mother grabbed Sarah's arm.

“Come.”

They hurried through the passage.

The walls were stone.

No windows.

No decorations.

Just old pipes and electrical wires.

At the end was a steel door.

Her mother unlocked it.

They entered a tiny room filled with monitors.

Sarah stopped.

Every camera in the estate was displayed on the screens.

The ballroom.

The driveway.

The kitchen.

The bedrooms.

The foyer.

Even the bathrooms.

Sarah felt sick.

“You've been watching us?”

Her mother looked ashamed.

“Sometimes.”

“For how long?”

“Seventeen years.”

Sarah stared at her.

“Why didn't you contact me?”

Her mother's voice broke.

“Because every time I tried, someone died.”

Silence.

Sarah stepped closer.

“Who?”

“My lawyer.”

“The driver who helped me escape.”

“The nurse who hid me.”

“My brother.”

Sarah’s eyes widened.

“Uncle Daniel?”

Her mother nodded.

“He found out what Richard was doing.”

“What is Richard doing?”

Her mother looked toward a monitor.

The screen showed Richard standing in the foyer.

He was not alone.

A man in a gray suit stood beside him.

Sarah recognized him instantly.

Her father.

Richard was speaking.

Though the audio was muted, Sarah could read his lips.

“Bring him here.”

Sarah turned toward her mother.

“What is he doing here?”

Her mother stared at the screen.

“I don't know.”

Then the monitor changed.

A new feed appeared.

A basement.

A metal chair.

A man tied to it.

Sarah's blood ran cold.

The camera zoomed slightly.

The man lifted his head.

It was her father.

Sarah gasped.

Her mother grabbed her shoulders.

“No.”

“My dad is here.”

“He lied to you.”

“What?”

“He told you he was outside.”

Sarah stared at the monitor.

Her father's eyes suddenly moved toward the camera.

As if he knew Sarah was watching.

His mouth formed two words.

RUN, SARAH.

The screen went black.

Then every monitor turned black.

The door behind them locked.

Sarah turned.

Her mother whispered:

“They found us.”

A voice came from the speaker.

Richard.

“Ladies.”

May you like

A pause.

“It's time to come home.”
