Chapter 9 - The Bloodline LieNathaniel wasn't my brother?

The thought was impossible.

I confronted him outside the courthouse.

“Show me the DNA test.”

He looked at my phone.

His face fell.

“I didn't send this.”

“Did you take a test?”

“Yes.”

“Show me.”

He handed me the report.

Twenty-four hours later, the laboratory confirmed the match.

We were half-siblings.

But not full siblings.

My father was not Nathaniel's father.

And Nathaniel was not my father's biological son.

We returned to Adrian.

He finally told us the truth.

“Thomas adopted Nathaniel.”

I stared.

“My father adopted him?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because Nathaniel's mother was involved with Atlas.”

“Who was she?”

Adrian looked at me.

“Eleanor Voss.”

Everything stopped.

Sloane's mother.

My father's secret partner.

Samuel Voss's wife.

My world fractured.

Nathaniel was Sloane's half-brother.

Which meant Gavin knew exactly how their family was connected.

And my marriage suddenly looked less like coincidence.

It was a carefully arranged collision.

My father had hidden Nathaniel.

Voss had hidden Sloane.

Gavin had hidden me.

And everyone had been guarding the same secret.

Atlas was not merely technology.

It was ownership.

A system that could predict human behavior through genetic, financial, and behavioral data.

Who would vote.

Who would panic.

Who would defect.

Who would trust.

Who would betray.

It could identify vulnerable individuals before they knew themselves.

That was why my children mattered.

Their genetic profile could unlock the final system.

I looked at Adrian.

“Where is the original Atlas?”

He answered quietly.

“Inside Rourke Regional Mobility.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

Adrian nodded.

“Not in the servers.”

“Then where?”

He looked toward the window.

“The company itself.”

I didn't understand.

“The ownership structure is the key.”

He pulled out a diagram.

Four founding shareholders.

My father.

Adrian.

Gavin.

And an unnamed fourth investor.

The fourth investor was protected by a blind trust.

The trust beneficiary?

Cassandra Bellamy.

Me.

I stared.

“That means…”

“Yes.”

“The company was never Gavin's.”

“No.”

“It was designed to transfer to me.”

“Yes.”

Then who was the fourth investor?

Adrian looked at Nathaniel.

Nathaniel spoke.

“Our mother.”

I turned.

“Eleanor Voss.”

He nodded.

“She funded the original Atlas research.”

I whispered,

“And my father hid it?”

“He did.”

“Why?”

“To keep Voss from using it.”

The room went silent.

Then Adrian received a phone call.

He listened.

His face changed.

“What?”

We looked at him.

He ended the call.

“The board has voted.”

“For what?”

“To remove Gavin.”

I felt a surge of relief.

Then Adrian added:

“And replace him with Sloane.”

My heart stopped.

“Sloane?”

“She controls enough shares through her father's trust.”

“But she doesn't know any of this.”

Adrian looked at me.

“She knows more than you think.”

That evening, Sloane entered the mansion.

Alone.

She stood in the doorway.

“I wasn't sent here to destroy your marriage.”

“Then why?”

She looked at me.

“To make sure you survived it.”

She reached into her pocket.

And handed me a key.

“A vault key.”

“What vault?”

May you like

She whispered:

“The one Gavin has spent thirteen years pretending doesn't exist.”
