Chapter 11 - Sarah Voss lived in a small house outside the city.No security.

No guards.
No luxury.
Just silence.
Nathan knocked.
An elderly woman opened the door.
Her eyes met his.
And she started crying.
“You came.”
Nathan couldn't speak.
He had imagined meeting his biological mother a thousand ways.
None looked like this.
Sarah touched his face.
“You look like him.”
“Like Daniel?”
She shook her head.
“Like me.”
Nathan stepped inside.
Emma's story had left him with a thousand questions.
Sarah had answers.
She told him everything.
Nathan's father had taken him as a child.
Daniel discovered the financial network.
He tried to expose it.
He was killed.
Sarah escaped.
She spent years hiding.
Nathan stared at old photographs.
One showed him as an infant.
Another showed Daniel holding him.
Then another showed a second baby.
Nathan's face tightened.
“Who's this?”
Sarah went pale.
“That was the other child.”
“Ethan?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
Sarah looked down.
“Your mother and father had twins.”
Nathan stopped breathing.
“Twins?”
She nodded.
“You were one.”
“Who was the other?”
Sarah whispered:
“Noah.”
Nathan stared.
“That isn't possible.”
Sarah shook her head.
“The Noah you know isn't your biological brother.”
Nathan couldn't speak.
Sarah continued:
“Your father stole you because he wanted an heir.”
Nathan's mind raced.
“Then what happened to my twin?”
Sarah looked terrified.
“He died.”
Nathan stepped backward.
“When?”
“The night your father started the ledger.”
Nathan remembered the baby photograph.
His face.
The same eyes.
The same scar.
Then a disturbing thought emerged.
Ethan.
Nathan stared.
“Ethan.”
Sarah shook her head.
“No.”
“Then who is Ethan?”
Before she could answer, every light in the house went out.
A voice came from the hallway.
“You shouldn't have come here.”
Nathan turned.
A man stood in the darkness.
Nathan knew him.
The company executive from the original police report.
The man who signed the financial transfers.
He raised a gun.
“Your father sends his regards.”
Nathan dove behind the table.
Gunfire shattered the room.
Sarah screamed.
Nathan tackled the attacker.
They hit the floor.
The man escaped through the back door.
Nathan ran after him.
Outside was empty.
Only tire tracks.
Nathan returned inside.
Sarah was bleeding from her arm.
“Who was he?”
She whispered:
“Marcus.”
Nathan froze.
“My uncle?”
Sarah nodded.
“Marcus was never your father's enemy.”
Nathan's blood ran cold.
“He worked for him.”
“Yes.”
Nathan sat beside her.
“What is the final truth?”
Sarah looked at him.
“The ledger was never about money.”
“Then what was it about?”
“People.”
“What people?”
“Children.”
Nathan frowned.
“What?”
“Your father created a system for replacing identities.”
Nathan stared.
“He would take children from families involved in the network.”
“Why?”
“To create perfect heirs.”
Nathan felt sick.
Sarah whispered:
“You weren't adopted.”
Nathan looked confused.
“You were exchanged.”
She opened an old file.
Inside were hospital records.
Birth records.
Death certificates.
DNA reports.
Nathan stared at the names.
Then he saw one he knew.
NOAH CARTER.
His name.
But the date was decades old.
He looked at Sarah.
“Who is the Noah I'm raising?”
Sarah looked into his eyes.
“I don't know.”
Nathan felt his entire body go cold.
Then his phone rang.
It was Lily.
He answered.
“Daddy?”
Her voice was shaking.
“Daddy, Noah is back.”
Nathan stood.
“What?”
“He's in the house.”
Nathan's heart stopped.
“Where is Victoria?”
Lily began crying.
“She isn't here.”
“Where is Noah?”
Silence.
Then Lily whispered:
“Daddy…”
A man's voice came onto the phone.
“You wanted the truth.”
Nathan recognized it.
His father's voice.
“Come home.”
Nathan tightened his grip.
“Why?”
“Because the boy you call Noah…”
The voice paused.
“…is waiting to meet his real father.”
The call ended.
Nathan looked at Sarah.
She was trembling.
“Who is Noah's real father?”
Sarah whispered:
May you like
“Your father.”
Nathan's face went white.
