Chapter 8 - The Woman Who Looked Like MeShe was almost my exact reflection.

Same eyes.
Same dark hair.
Same narrow jaw.
Same small scar above the left eyebrow.
I touched my own scar.
She had one too.
Felix stared at the screen.
"Who is she?"
Adrian answered.
"Rachel Marlowe."
My knees almost gave out.
"Marlowe?"
"Your biological sister."
I had no sister.
Not according to every record I had ever seen.
Not according to my father.
Not according to my mother.
"How?"
Adrian looked at Odette.
"Because Odette erased her."
The woman on the screen leaned down toward Lily.
"Your mother has been lying to you."
Lily shook her head.
"Mommy is coming."
Rachel smiled.
"She always comes."
I couldn't breathe.
"What does she want?"
Odette finally spoke.
"Control."
Felix stepped toward her.
"If she hurts Lily..."
"She won't."
Odette looked at him.
"Not unless you make the wrong decision."
"What decision?"
She raised the tablet.
"The merger closes in eight minutes."
A document appeared.
Kingsley Hospitality Group.
Controlling ownership.
Marlowe House.
All intellectual property.
All brand assets.
All offshore holdings.
One signature.
Felix's.
"If you sign," Odette said, "Lily comes home."
I laughed.
It came out broken.
"You think he'll sign?"
Odette looked at him.
"He will."
Felix stared at the screen.
Lily was crying.
"Mommy..."
He closed his eyes.
I stepped closer.
"Felix."
He looked at me.
"I need you to trust me."
"Sarah..."
"I know what she's doing."
"What?"
"She's trying to make you choose between Lily and me."
I touched his hand.
"You don't get to choose."
He looked at the screen.
Then at me.
"You are right."
He picked up a pen.
Odette smiled.
I watched him sign the first page.
Then the second.
Then the third.
My heart collapsed.
"Felix?"
He kept signing.
Odette leaned back.
"Smart choice."
Felix placed the pen down.
"I signed."
He looked at her.
"But you forgot something."
Her expression changed.
"What?"
"The contract isn't valid."
She frowned.
"Why?"
Felix held up the final page.
"You forged Sarah's signature seven years ago."
Odette stared.
"So?"
"That means the transfer agreement is invalid."
He smiled.
"And I recorded everything."
A hidden light blinked above the camera.
Adrian grinned.
"We got it."
Odette's face changed for the first time.
Fear.
Then anger.
"Kill the feed."
Rachel disappeared from the screen.
The building alarms erupted.
Felix grabbed my hand.
"Run."
We sprinted toward the stairs.
Then Lily's voice came through the speakers.
"Mommy!"
I stopped.
"Where is she?"
A door slammed open ahead of us.
Rachel stood there.
Holding Lily.
A knife at her throat.
Everything inside me stopped.
May you like
She smiled.
"Now we talk."
