Chapter 14 - The warehouse became chaos.Police rushed in.

Medical teams surrounded Aaron.

Alice tried to escape.

Marco stopped her.

My mother surrendered.

My father disappeared into the underground facility.

Elena stayed beside me.

Lily held my hand.

Sophie stood close.

For the first time in three years, both my daughters were together.

And yet I could not shake Aaron's last word.

9:17.

Samuel found a second recording in the helicopter.

The file was marked:

FINAL MEMORY

We played it.

The screen showed the road where Elena's car had supposedly crashed.

The timestamp was 9:17 p.m.

The video showed Elena's vehicle stopping.

No crash.

No explosion.

She got out.

Lily followed.

Then I appeared.

Except it wasn't me.

It was Aaron.

He looked exactly as I did.

He took Lily's hand.

Elena confronted him.

“What did you do?”

Aaron said:

“It's already finished.”

Then my mother arrived.

She whispered something to Elena.

Elena looked at Lily.

Then she made a decision.

She ran.

Alice's people chased her.

Aaron did not.

Instead, he stayed with Lily.

Then another car arrived.

Inside was my father.

He stepped out.

And said:

“Take the girl.”

Aaron refused.

My father slapped him.

“You were created to obey.”

Aaron stared at Lily.

Then did something unexpected.

He took Lily and ran.

The recording ended.

I looked at Elena.

“You knew.”

She nodded.

“Aaron saved Lily.”

“Then why did you call him a killer?”

“Because he eventually went back.”

“Why?”

“Because they threatened Sophie.”

Sophie covered her mouth.

Elena continued.

“Aaron tried to erase every person connected to the program.”

“He killed them?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn't you stop him?”

“Because he was the only one keeping Lily alive.”

The room went quiet.

Samuel shut off the monitor.

“There is still one problem.”

“What?”

He handed me a photograph.

A cemetery.

Three graves.

My father.

My brother Victor.

And Elena.

I stared.

“Elena's grave.”

He nodded.

“You need to open it.”

We drove to the cemetery before dawn.

The grave had never been disturbed.

Or so it appeared.

We opened it.

The coffin was empty.

My wife's grave had never contained a body.

I stared into the darkness.

Then Lily screamed.

She pointed behind us.

A man stood between the graves.

White shirt.

Older.

Scar on his cheek.

My father.

He smiled.

“You finally figured it out.”

I raised my gun.

“You're going to prison.”

He shook his head.

“No.”

“It's over.”

“No, Adrian.”

He pointed toward the cemetery gate.

A dozen black cars arrived.

Then another.

Then another.

“This wasn't a family conspiracy.”

He looked at Elena.

“It was an organization.”

She stepped closer.

“What do they want?”

My father smiled.

“You.”

The cars stopped.

Every door opened.

Men and women stepped out.

All carrying white shirts in their hands.

My father whispered:

“R-17 was never about replacing one person.”

May you like

He looked at Lily.

“It was about creating someone who could replace all of us.”
