Chapter 15 - The woman walked into the room as though she owned it.No weapon.

No fear.

Just a calm confidence that made everyone else silent.

Daniel stared at her.

“My sister?”

She nodded.

“My name is Clara.”

Emily went pale.

“No.”

Clara smiled.

“You remember me.”

Daniel shook his head.

“I don't.”

“You will.”

She stepped closer.

“I was the first child.”

Daniel's face tightened.

“The first subject.”

“Yes.”

Michael looked at her.

“Then why did everyone think you were dead?”

Clara laughed.

“Because I was.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

“I died once.”

She touched her chest.

“They brought me back.”

Dr. Ward looked away.

Daniel suddenly understood.

Project Dove wasn't just memory manipulation.

It had been trying to preserve people.

To create human beings who could survive death through memory transfer.

Clara was the first success.

Adrian's daughter.

The original prototype.

The source from which everything else had grown.

“You were inside the machine,” Daniel whispered.

“Yes.”

“And my memories?”

“Came from me.”

Daniel stumbled backward.

“What?”

Clara smiled.

“You were given fragments of my memory.”

Michael stared.

“No.”

“Yes.”

Noah looked sick.

“So none of us are what we thought.”

Clara shook her head.

“You are exactly what you thought.”

She looked at Daniel.

“You are Alexander.”

She looked at Michael.

“You are Michael.”

Then at Noah.

“You are Noah.”

Finally Lily.

“And she is Lily.”

Daniel frowned.

“Then why did everyone lie?”

Clara's expression became serious.

“Because Adrian didn't create Project Dove to control families.”

She paused.

“He created it to survive.”

“From what?”

Clara's eyes moved toward the window.

A helicopter hovered outside.

“They're here.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Who?”

Clara answered:

“The people Adrian was afraid of.”

The helicopter doors opened.

Armed soldiers descended.

Victor stared.

“They found us.”

Richard whispered:

“Impossible.”

Clara smiled.

“No.”

“They were waiting.”

Daniel looked around.

“Waiting for what?”

Clara looked at him.

“For you to remember.”

Daniel felt something unlock inside his mind.

The headache returned.

But this time, he didn't fight it.

He let the memory come.

The laboratory.

The fire.

Michael.

Noah.

Lily.

Emily.

Victor.

Richard.

Adrian.

And Clara.

He remembered everything.

He remembered the night Adrian tried to destroy Project Dove.

He remembered who started the fire.

He remembered who betrayed everyone.

And he remembered the person standing behind Clara.

Daniel slowly turned.

Dr. Ward.

She was crying.

Daniel whispered:

“You.”

She nodded.

“I started the fire.”

Emily covered her mouth.

Michael stared.

“Why?”

Dr. Ward answered:

“Because your father was about to transfer himself into Alexander.”

Daniel's blood went cold.

“He was going to erase me.”

“Yes.”

“You stopped him.”

“I tried.”

Clara stepped forward.

“And I finished it.”

Daniel looked at Clara.

“How?”

She smiled.

“I transferred his final memory into you.”

Daniel stared.

“All of it?”

“All of it.”

The helicopter outside fired.

The building shook.

Windows shattered.

Everyone ducked.

Clara grabbed Daniel's arm.

“We have three minutes.”

“To do what?”

She looked at the old machine in the center of the laboratory.

“Destroy it.”

Daniel stared.

“You mean Project Dove.”

“Yes.”

“But if we destroy it...”

“Every stored memory disappears.”

Michael understood.

“And everyone connected to it.”

Clara nodded.

Daniel looked at Emily.

She smiled through tears.

“Do it.”

Daniel stepped toward the machine.

Richard shouted:

“NO!”

Victor attacked him.

They crashed into the floor.

Noah fired at the ceiling lights.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Michael and Sophia dragged Lily away.

Daniel reached the machine.

A screen lit up.

CONFIRM MEMORY PURGE?

His hand hovered above the button.

Then a final message appeared.

WARNING: PURGE WILL DELETE ALL RECORDED MEMORIES FROM SUBJECT ALEXANDER CROSS.

Daniel stared.

His entire identity.

His father's memories.

His childhood.

His mother.

Michael.

Sophia.

Everything he had just recovered.

Gone.

Clara whispered:

“You'll finally be free.”

Daniel looked at her.

“What if I forget all of you?”

“You'll still know who you chose to be.”

He looked at Emily.

At Michael.

At Sophia.

At Lily.

At Noah.

Then he pressed the button.

The machine screamed.

Lights exploded.

The walls shook.

Thousands of stored memories flashed across the screens.

Faces.

Names.

Secrets.

Murderers.

Victims.

Children.

Families.

Then everything turned white.

Daniel collapsed.

When he opened his eyes, the laboratory was silent.

Smoke drifted through broken windows.

Michael sat beside him.

Sophia was holding his hand.

Emily stood nearby.

Lily was crying.

Daniel looked at them.

For several seconds, he couldn't remember their names.

His heart dropped.

Sophia squeezed his hand.

“Daniel?”

He stared at her.

“Who are you?”

She began to cry.

Michael looked away.

Emily closed her eyes.

Then Daniel smiled faintly.

“I don't remember everything.”

Sophia touched his face.

“But I remember you.”

She laughed through tears.

“That's enough.”

Outside, sirens filled the city.

The old Project Dove facility burned behind them.

For the first time in decades, there were no hidden cameras.

No secret files.

No men watching from dark cars.

The nightmare was over.

Or so they thought.

Three weeks later, Daniel stood outside the church.

The same church where a woman had once stopped his wedding.

There were no guests today.

No flowers.

No cameras.

Just his family.

Sophia stood beside him.

Michael leaned against the steps.

Emily watched from a distance.

Daniel looked at the stone where his bouquet had once fallen.

Then he noticed something.

A tiny envelope.

His name was written across it.

His hands trembled as he opened it.

Inside was a single photograph.

Daniel stared.

It showed Adrian Cross.

Standing beside a woman Daniel had never seen.

The woman was holding a newborn baby.

On the back was written:

PROJECT DOVE WAS ONLY PHASE ONE.

Below it:

PHASE TWO HAS ALREADY BEGUN.

Daniel slowly looked up.

Across the street stood a black car.

The window rolled down.

An unfamiliar woman was sitting inside.

She smiled at him.

Then raised a hand.

A tiny child sat beside her.

The child's face was turned toward Daniel.

And whispered something through the open window.

Daniel couldn't hear the words.

But Michael could.

Michael suddenly went pale.

“Daniel.”

“What?”

Michael stared at the car.

“That child...”

The car accelerated away.

Daniel watched it disappear into traffic.

“What about the child?”

Michael looked at him.

“He has your scar.”

Daniel's blood went cold.

“What?”

Michael whispered:

“The same scar you had when you were five.”

Daniel looked down at his hand.

Then back at the empty street.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Because there was only one question left.

If Project Dove had truly been destroyed...

Who had created Phase Two?

And why did they already have another child who looked exactly like Alexander Cross?

The answer came twenty miles away.

Inside a dark room.

A monitor flickered on.

A man's voice whispered:

“Subject Alexander is awake.”

Another voice answered:

“Good.”

“And the family?”

“Still alive.”

A pause.

Then:

“Excellent.”

The screen displayed one final image.

Daniel.

Michael.

Sophia.

Emily.

Lily.

Noah.

All of them.

Captured from a hidden camera.

The second voice laughed softly.

“Let them believe the story is over.”

The monitor went black.

Then one final message appeared.

PHASE TWO: THE CHILDREN WHO REMEMBER.
