Chapter 3: The Hidden Conspiracy Inside Carter Technologies

The courtroom had become a storm.

Not the kind caused by shouting.

Not the kind caused by chaos.

It was something much more dangerous.

A storm of realization.

For three weeks, everyone had believed they knew the truth.

Daniel Carter was guilty.

The evidence was clear.

The witnesses were convincing.

The story was simple.

A powerful businessman had committed a crime, and justice had finally caught up with him.

But now the foundation of that story was breaking apart.

Like a glass building hit by a single crack.

One crack.

Then another.

Then everything started falling.

Judge Williams looked at Detective Robert Mason.

The detective who had once walked into that courtroom with confidence.

The detective who had stood before the jury and promised he had followed every piece of evidence carefully.

Now he sat silently.

His face was pale.

His hands were shaking.

"Detective Mason," the judge said firmly.

"Would you like to explain this recording?"

Mason looked around.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

The courtroom waited.

The entire world waited.

But the detective remained silent.

That silence said more than any confession could.

The prosecutor, Michael Reeves, stepped forward.

"Your Honor, we cannot determine the authenticity of a recording taken from an unknown device found in suspicious circumstances."

Judge Williams looked at him.

"Are you suggesting we ignore evidence that directly involves your own investigation?"

The prosecutor opened his mouth.

Then closed it.

Because he had no answer.

Not a good one.

The forensic examiner adjusted the equipment.

"Your Honor, the audio file contains metadata showing it was recorded approximately four months ago."

"Can it be manipulated?"

"Any digital file can potentially be manipulated."

The examiner paused.

"But this recording contains environmental details matching the location where Detective Mason claimed he never met with Mr. Hayes."

The judge narrowed his eyes.

"Meaning?"

"Meaning the recording appears to have been made inside Detective Mason's private office."

A wave of whispers spread through the courtroom.

Daniel stared at the detective.

Four months ago.

That was before the arrest.

Before the trial.

Before anyone knew Victor Hayes was alive.

The conspiracy had been planned long before anyone discovered it.

After the judge called for a short recess, Daniel and his family were taken into a private conference room.

His attorney, David Miller, closed the door.

Nobody spoke for several seconds.

Everyone was trying to process what had happened.

Finally, David placed both hands on the table.

"Daniel, I need you to answer one question."

Daniel looked at him.

"Did you know Victor was alive?"

"No."

"Did you have any contact with him in the last five years?"

"No."

"Did you ever discuss taking over your own company through illegal means?"

Daniel almost looked offended.

"No."

David nodded slowly.

"Good."

Rachel looked confused.

"Good?"

David turned toward her.

"Because this changes everything."

He grabbed a folder filled with documents.

"For three weeks, the prosecution controlled the story."

He opened it.

"They showed the jury financial transfers."

Another document.

"They showed secret emails."

Another.

"They showed witness statements."

He looked at Daniel.

"But now we have something they didn't expect."

"What?"

"Someone else wanted you convicted."

Daniel stared at the papers.

"Victor."

David nodded.

"Victor and someone inside law enforcement."

Rachel sat down.

"But why?"

Daniel looked away.

Because he already knew.

The answer was painful.

"Carter Technologies."

His wife looked at him.

"The company?"

Daniel nodded.

"Victor always believed he deserved more."

David frowned.

"More?"

"When we started, he created the technology. I handled the business side."

Daniel paused.

"He believed the company was his creation."

"And you disagreed?"

Daniel looked down.

"I believed it was ours."

The room became quiet.

Because sometimes the deepest wounds came from people who once stood beside you.

Meanwhile, in another room inside the courthouse, Detective Mason sat alone.

A police officer stood outside the door.

His phone rested on the table.

Buzzing.

Buzzing.

Buzzing.

Finally, he picked it up.

One message appeared.

Unknown Number:

"You failed."

Mason stared at the screen.

Another message arrived.

"Fix this before tonight."

His hands tightened.

He typed:

"The phone changed everything. I can't control the situation anymore."

The reply came instantly.

"Then remove the problem."

Mason froze.

He understood.

They weren't talking about the trial anymore.

They were talking about Daniel.

Back inside the conference room, Emily sat quietly drawing on a piece of paper.

Rachel noticed.

"Sweetheart, what are you drawing?"

The girl turned the paper around.

Daniel looked.

His heart stopped.

It was a picture of a room.

A large office.

A desk.

A window.

And three people standing inside.

One was Daniel.

One was Victor.

The third person was someone else.

Someone Daniel didn't recognize.

"Who is that?"

Emily pointed.

"The man who told Victor where to put the phone."

Daniel's expression changed.

"What man?"

Emily looked confused.

"I don't know his name."

"What did he look like?"

She thought carefully.

"Like a teacher."

"A teacher?"

She nodded.

"He had glasses."

Daniel felt a strange feeling.

Not fear.

Recognition.

A memory buried deep.

Someone from Carter Technologies.

Someone who had access to everything.

Before he could ask another question, David's phone rang.

He answered.

His expression immediately changed.

"What?"

Everyone looked at him.

"What happened?"

David slowly lowered the phone.

"The judge received new information."

Daniel stood.

"What information?"

David looked at him.

"The prosecution's financial expert just admitted something."

"What?"

"He was paid to alter his testimony."

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The walls around them felt smaller.

The entire case had been built on lies.

Every piece of evidence.

Every witness.

Every accusation.

Someone had carefully designed a trap.

But there was still one question.

If Victor wanted control of Carter Technologies...

Who was the mysterious person helping him?

And why was Emily the one who discovered the truth first?

That evening, as the courthouse emptied, a security camera captured something unusual.

A figure entered the building through a restricted entrance.

The person walked directly toward the evidence room.

No hesitation.

No fear.

They knew exactly where they were going.

The figure opened the locked cabinet.

Inside was the phone.

The same phone that had exposed the conspiracy.

A gloved hand reached for it.

But before taking it...

The person stopped.

Because another voice came from behind.

"You shouldn't have come back."

The figure turned.

Standing in the darkness was Daniel Carter.

He had followed them.

And he was finally face-to-face with the person who started everything.

Daniel whispered:

"Who are you?"

The person slowly removed their glasses.

And Daniel's entire world froze.

Because the answer was someone he never expected.

Someone who had been beside him from the beginning.

Someone who knew every secret.

Every weakness.

Every mistake.

Someone inside his own company.
