CHAPTER 2: THE VOICE FROM THE GRAVE Ethan pressed the button. A faint clicking sound filled the funeral hall. Then… His father’s voice echoed through the speakers. “If you are hearing this, something has happened to me.” The guests froze. Victoria covered her mouth. Daniel Whitmore’s voice continued. “I don’t know who I can trust anymore.” Ethan stared at the coffin. His father sounded weak. Afraid. Nothing like the confident businessman everyone knew. “I discovered someone close to me has been stealing from my company.” A wave of shock moved through the room. Victoria slowly stepped backward. The recording continued. “They want everyone to believe I died naturally.” The hall exploded with whispers. Someone gasped. Someone else reached for their phone. Ethan closed his eyes. He had heard this recording once before. But hearing it again felt like his father was speaking from the other side. Then Daniel said something that changed everything. “The evidence is inside the place where nobody would think to look.” The recording stopped. Silence returned. Everyone stared at the coffin. The place where nobody would think to look. Victoria suddenly turned toward the funeral director. “End this.” Nobody moved. The funeral director looked confused. “Mrs. Whitmore?” She forced a smile. “This is inappropriate. My husband deserves peace.” Ethan stepped closer. “No.” His voice was cold. “My father deserves the truth.” He looked at the coffin. “You spent two days telling everyone he died from a sudden illness.” He pointed at Victoria. “But you were the one who refused an independent examination.” Her expression changed. A small crack appeared in her perfect mask. Because Ethan knew. He knew everything. The guests watched as Ethan approached the coffin. The funeral director hesitated. “Sir, are you certain?” Ethan looked at the wooden lid. “No.” He swallowed. “I’m terrified.” A pause. “But I’m more terrified of leaving my father’s truth buried.” Slowly… The locks on the coffin began to open. / Chapter 2 / 5

CHAPTER 3: THE SECRET BENEATH THE LID

CHAPTER 3: THE SECRET BENEATH THE LID

The sound of the coffin unlocking echoed through the hall.

Click.

Click.

Click.

Every person watched.

Nobody breathed.

Victoria stood frozen.

Her expensive black dress suddenly looked like a costume.

A disguise.

The funeral director carefully lifted the lid.

And everyone saw Daniel Whitmore.

He looked peaceful.

Almost asleep.

A few mourners began crying.

Ethan stepped closer.

His face broke.

For a moment, he wasn’t a man searching for answers.

He was just a son seeing his father one last time.

“Dad…”

His voice barely escaped.

Then he noticed something.

A small mark beneath Daniel’s collar.

A mark that shouldn’t have been there.

Ethan leaned closer.

The doctor who had signed the death certificate immediately stepped forward.

“Don’t touch him.”

Everyone looked at him.

Ethan turned.

“Why?”

The doctor hesitated.

That hesitation said everything.

“You already knew,” Ethan whispered.

The doctor looked away.

Victoria closed her eyes.

The truth was beginning to surface.

Ethan carefully moved the collar aside.

Hidden beneath the fabric was a tiny electronic device.

A tracking chip.

The room erupted.

“What is that?”

“Why would he have that?”

Ethan removed it carefully.

Then he noticed something else.

A folded piece of paper hidden beneath his father’s hand.

His fingers trembled as he opened it.

Only one sentence was written.

“Trust no one who cries the loudest.”

Ethan slowly looked around.

His eyes stopped on Victoria.

Because during the entire funeral…

She had cried perfectly.

At the perfect moments.

With perfect control.

But now…

There were no tears.

Only fear.

Victoria finally spoke.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

Ethan stared at her.

“Then explain.”

She remained silent.

And that silence was the answer.

But before anyone could react…

The lights suddenly went out.

The funeral hall disappeared into darkness.

A scream came from the crowd.

And when the emergency lights returned…

The evidence was gone.
