Chapter 2: The Safe Behind the Lies

Chapter 2: The Safe Behind the Lies
Elena quietly pressed against the back wall of the walk-in closet.
A hidden wooden panel shifted open with a faint click.
Vincent stared in disbelief.
"I had no idea that existed."
"Neither did Marcus," Elena replied.
"It was built almost fifty years ago for the original household staff."
A narrow stone passage disappeared beneath the mansion.
The two slipped inside just as Marcus's men forced open the closet doors.
Voices exploded behind them.
"They're gone!"
Marcus cursed.
"Seal every exit."
"No one leaves this estate."
The hidden tunnel stretched beneath the property, damp and silent except for distant footsteps overhead.
For the first time in decades, Vincent Torino wasn't giving orders.
He was following someone else's lead.
As they walked deeper underground, memories resurfaced.
Then suddenly Vincent stopped.
"The hard drive..."
Elena turned.
"It isn't in the bedroom."
Vincent shook his head.
"I built another vault twenty years ago."
"A place no one knows about."
"Not even Marcus."
"Where?"
Vincent answered quietly.
"Beneath the old family chapel."
Elena understood immediately.
The hidden safe behind the painting had always been a decoy.
The real secret had never been money.
It was evidence.
Enough evidence to destroy presidents, judges, intelligence directors, corporate empires, and entire criminal syndicates.
Thousands of classified files.
Assassination records.
Election manipulation.
Bribery payments.
Covert operations.
The real architects behind decades of organized violence.
"If Marcus gets those files..."
Elena didn't finish the sentence.
She didn't have to.
Meanwhile, Marcus stood inside the ruined bedroom.
"They escaped through a tunnel."
One of his men looked nervous.
"We lost them."
Marcus smiled instead.
"No."
"We've only delayed them."
He pulled out his phone.
"Lock down every bridge."
"Every highway."
"Every airport."
"No vehicle leaves the city."
Within minutes, police checkpoints appeared across every major road.
Private security contractors.
Corrupt officers.
Mercenaries.
The entire city became a cage.
For the first time in his life...
Vincent Torino became the hunted.
Throughout the night, loyal soldiers still faithful to Vincent sacrificed themselves to buy him time.
Some died defending empty safe houses.
Others deliberately drew Marcus's forces away from the tunnels.
Each loss struck Vincent harder than any bullet.
Many of the men dying tonight had followed him for decades.
Then came the cruelest realization.
Several of those he trusted most had already switched sides months earlier.
The betrayal had spread much deeper than he had ever imagined.
May you like
His empire hadn't collapsed overnight.
It had been rotting from within for years.
