Chapter 2: The Memory Hidden Inside a Song Security guards closed every exit before anyone realized what was happening. Guests who had arrived expecting an evening of generosity suddenly found themselves trapped inside a gilded prison. Victor approached with calm confidence. "Eleanor," he said gently, "this reunion is emotional for everyone. Let my people take the child somewhere safe." Daniel instinctively stepped behind his mother. "No." Victor's smile tightened. Arthur suddenly shouted, "Don't let him hear the lullaby!" Too late. One of Victor's assistants pressed a button on a small speaker. A soft melody floated through the plaza. It sounded innocent. Simple. Almost beautiful. Daniel froze. His breathing changed. The music unlocked something buried deep inside his mind. A rainy night. A speeding van. Hands covering his mouth. A frightened little girl crying beside him. A warehouse filled with children. Doctors wearing masks. Men arguing over files. Then... A familiar face. Victor. Not smiling. Ordering someone to separate the children. Daniel collapsed onto his knees, clutching his head. "I remember..." Victor's calm expression cracked. "Stop him!" The guards rushed forward. Before they reached Daniel, the little girl who had shared her sandwich stepped directly into their path. "You'll have to go through me first!" Her fearless voice startled everyone. Several guests instinctively stepped beside her. Then another. And another. Within seconds, dozens of strangers formed a human wall around the reunited family. The charity gala had transformed into a battlefield without weapons. Victor realized cameras were still recording. He forced another smile. "We're only trying to protect the child." Arthur laughed bitterly. "No." His voice echoed across the square. "You're trying to silence the only witness left alive." / Chapter 2 / 5

Chapter 3: The Underground Room

Chapter 3: The Underground Room

Police finally arrived, but before they could question anyone, Arthur collapsed.

His heart was failing.

With his final strength, he pressed an old brass key into Eleanor's hand.

"Storage Unit Twelve..."

He coughed violently.

"Everything... is there."

Minutes later, he was gone.

That night, Eleanor, Daniel, and Detective Sarah Collins secretly entered an abandoned train station on the city's outskirts.

Hidden beneath it was Storage Unit Twelve.

The key fit.

Inside waited dozens of dusty filing cabinets, videotapes, hard drives, and children's drawings covering the walls.

Daniel slowly walked toward one drawing.

It showed a little blue bird trapped inside a golden cage.

He whispered, "I drew this."

Detective Collins inserted one of the hard drives into her laptop.

Video appeared.

A younger Victor Langford stood inside an underground medical facility.

Children sat in rows.

Some cried.

Some stared blankly.

Scientists discussed memory conditioning.

Identity replacement.

Behavioral experiments.

Daniel's face appeared briefly.

Case Number 27.

Status: Exceptional Recall.

Recommendation: Permanent Relocation.

Eleanor covered her mouth in horror.

"This wasn't kidnapping..."

Detective Collins stared at the files.

"This was organized human experimentation."

Another document appeared.

Funding Approval.

Signed by five names.

Victor Langford.

Three government officials.

And...

Eleanor's own husband.

The room fell silent.

Daniel slowly turned toward his mother.

"Dad knew?"

May you like

She couldn't answer.

Because she had just discovered she no longer knew the man she had married.
