Everyone turned toward Marcus.

A door at the back of the gallery slowly closed.

"He took the activation code."

"What does he want?"
Then a video appeared.
Marcus appeared on the screen.

"Hello, everyone."
Emily stared.
"Marcus."
He laughed.
"All these years, you thought the war was about Genesis."
A pause.
"You were wrong."
He leaned closer to the camera.
"The war was about who gets to decide what humanity deserves."
The countdown continued.

Marcus smiled.
"And now..."
"I will make that decision."
The screen changed.
A location appeared.
The old Carter estate.
The underground laboratory.
Victor Carter.
Marcus was standing beside him.
Emily's blood froze.
Because Marcus had reached her father first.
Marcus looked at the camera.
"Come and save him."
A pause.
"Bring Lily."
Emily's face changed.
Marcus smiled.
"Because without her..."
"Genesis cannot choose."
The screen went black.
