Arthur found Evelyn standing alone in the library.
"You knew," he said quietly.
"I planned it," she replied.
Arthur didn't sound angry.
Only tired.
"For years I believed these people respected us."
"They respected your money," Evelyn answered.
"They feared my silence."
Arthur looked at her with an expression that mixed admiration and regret.
"How many of them are guilty?"
Evelyn smiled.
"Enough to empty this ballroom before sunrise."
Then she handed Arthur a second envelope.
He opened it.
Inside wasn't Richard's name.
