CHAPTER 4: THE SON WHO HATED HIM

CHAPTER 4: THE SON WHO HATED HIM
The boy was waiting in the hospital lobby.
Hands in his jacket pockets.
Cold expression.
Guarded eyes.
Esteban knew immediately.
His son.
The boy looked at him.
Not with happiness.
Not with excitement.
With anger.
“You’re late.”
Those two words hurt more than anything.
Esteban stepped closer.
“What’s your name?”
The boy laughed softly.
“You don’t even know that?”
Silence.
“My name is Mateo.”
Esteban felt tears forming.
“I’m sorry.”
Mateo looked away.
“You always say that.”
The sentence confused him.
“What do you mean?”
Mateo pulled out an old newspaper.
A photo of Esteban and Victor.
“My whole life, I was told my father chose money over us.”
Esteban froze.
“That’s not true.”
“Then why did you never come?”
Because Esteban had believed Yohandra abandoned him.
Because he thought he was betrayed.
Because he never knew.
Mateo shook his head.
“You weren’t there when Mom cried.”
“You weren’t there when she got sick.”
“You weren’t there when I needed a father.”
Every word cut deeper.
Then Mateo said something unexpected.
“But I found out the truth.”
Esteban looked up.
“What truth?”
Mateo glanced toward the hospital room.
“Grandfather didn’t just hide me.”
“He created me.”
The sentence made no sense.
Until Mateo continued.
“He used my mother’s pregnancy to control your family.”
Esteban felt sick.
Victor’s plan was bigger than revenge.
It was about control.

Then Mateo whispered:
“And he’s not done.”
