Chapter 11 - Everything happened at once.Lena screamed.

Daniel rushed toward Mara.
Victor pulled his gun.
Rafe tackled him.
They crashed against the wall.
A security alarm began screaming.
Red lights flashed.
Rafe pinned Victor's wrist.
"Where is Gabriel?"
Victor stared at him.
"You're asking the wrong question."
Rafe tightened his grip.
"Then give me the right one."
Victor smiled through the pain.
"Ask why your father let you live."
"Which father?"
"Exactly."
Victor slammed his head backward.
Rafe staggered.
Victor broke free.
He ran.
Rafe chased him down the corridor.
The hospital had transformed into chaos.
Patients fled.
Security officers shouted.
Alarms echoed.
Rafe saw Victor disappear through a stairwell.
He followed.
Three flights down.
Then another.
Victor reached the basement.
Rafe caught him.
They fought near the boiler room.
Victor grabbed a metal pipe.
Rafe blocked the first strike.
The second caught his shoulder.
Rafe roared.
He drove Victor into the wall.
"Where is Gabriel?"
Victor laughed.
"Still looking for a monster?"
Rafe hit him.
"Where?"
Victor stared into his eyes.
"You're the monster."
Rafe froze.
Victor continued.
"You always were."
"What did you do to me?"
"Nothing."
"What did Gabriel do?"
"Ask him."
Victor suddenly smiled.
"He's downstairs."
Rafe stopped.
"Downstairs where?"
Victor pointed toward a steel door.
"Behind it."
Rafe opened the door.
A hidden laboratory lay beyond.
Old surgical equipment.
Medical files.
Photographs.
Children's records.
And in the center...
A glass wall.
Behind it stood Gabriel.
Alive.
Watching.
Rafe approached.
Gabriel pressed a hand against the glass.
"My son."
Rafe's voice trembled.
"What did you do to me?"
Gabriel looked almost sad.
"I saved you."
"Everyone says that."
"Because it's true."
"You erased my memory."
"Yes."
"You changed my face."
"Yes."
"You stole my life."
Gabriel shook his head.
"I gave you one."
Rafe felt rage boiling.
"Why?"
"Because your original identity made you a target."
"What identity?"
Gabriel pointed to a file.
NOAH VANCE.
"The fourth child."
Rafe stared.
"You said Noah died."
"I lied."
"Why?"
"Because Noah was the heir."
Rafe's expression changed.
"Heir to what?"
Gabriel smiled.
"Everything."
Rafe opened the file.
Inside was a photograph.
His face.
But younger.
Much younger.
Beside it was a photograph of three other children.
Gabriel continued.
"Your father didn't build the organization."
Rafe looked up.
"I did."
Silence.
"And I needed an heir."
Rafe closed the file.
"I'm not becoming you."
Gabriel smiled.
"You already are."
Behind Rafe, a voice spoke.
"No."
He turned.
Daniel stood there.
Holding a gun.
He pointed it directly at Gabriel.
"He's not."
Gabriel laughed.
"Daniel."
Daniel's hands shook.
"You took my brother."
Gabriel's smile vanished.
"What?"
Daniel looked at Rafe.
"Your real mother wasn't Anna."
Rafe stared.
Daniel whispered:
"Your mother is still alive."
Then he raised the gun.
"And I've spent twenty-two years hunting the man who kidnapped her."
Gabriel's expression changed.
Suddenly, the glass wall shattered.
Gunfire erupted.
Rafe ducked.
When he looked up...
Gabriel was gone.
So was Daniel.
Only a bloody handprint remained on the glass.
