Chapter 15 - The Name They Were Afraid to SayThree days later, we were hiding in a safe house overlooking the sea.

Gabriel slept beside me.

Dante hadn't slept properly since the night of the attack.

Neither had I.

Isabella was recovering upstairs.

My mother was officially dead.

At least, according to every record.

But we had seen the photograph.

She was alive.

That meant the enemy had taken her.

And wanted us to believe she was dead.

Dante sat across from me.

“We have one last problem.”

I looked up.

“What?”

He placed the microfilm on the table.

“The accounts aren't Carlo's.”

I frowned.

“You said they were.”

“I was wrong.”

He had spent two days decoding the numbers.

“They belong to your father.”

I stared.

“Gabriel Valdez?”

“Yes.”

“But he's dead.”

“According to the records.”

Dante pushed another document toward me.

It contained a photograph of a man entering a private bank.

The image was recent.

The man looked older.

Gray hair.

Same scar above the eyebrow.

My blood went cold.

“That…”

“Yes.”

“My father.”

Dante nodded.

“He's alive.”

I couldn't speak.

For twenty-four years, everyone had been chasing a dead man.

But he had been watching from the shadows.

Worse, his accounts were connected to the Moretti empire, government offices, and the people who had hunted us.

Dante looked at me.

“Your father was never a victim.”

“What was he?”

“A strategist.”

I stared at the photograph.

“Why would he abandon us?”

“He didn't.”

Dante handed me a recording.

My father's voice played.

“If my daughters are hearing this, then the plan has failed.”

I felt a chill.

“I built the Valdez network to destroy the Moretti operation from within.”

The recording continued.

“Carlo believed he controlled me.”

“He didn't.”

“I controlled him.”

Dante looked at me.

My father continued.

“I needed one daughter to enter the Moretti family and one to disappear.”

I felt tears in my eyes.

“Isabella was never the prize.”

“She was the distraction.”

Silence.

Then his voice changed.

“And Elina was the true heir.”

I froze.

Dante looked at me.

My father continued.

“Not heir to the money.”

“Not heir to the empire.”

“Heir to the evidence.”

I stared at the speaker.

“The entire network is hidden behind one biological key.”

“And only Elina can unlock it.”

I whispered:

“My DNA.”

“Yes.”

The final seconds of the recording contained an address.

Dante stood.

“We go tonight.”

“No.”

He looked at me.

“I have to find my father.”

“I know.”

“And my mother.”

“I know.”

“And I need to know why everyone has been lying to me.”

Dante reached for my hand.

“You won't face it alone.”

We drove through the night.

The address led to an old warehouse near the harbor.

Inside was a single room.

A table.

A chair.

A lamp.

And a man sitting in the shadows.

He stood.

I saw the scar.

The gray hair.

The face I'd spent my whole life wondering about.

My father.

Gabriel Valdez.

My sister came up behind me.

Her breath caught.

“Dad.”

He looked at both of us.

Then at Gabriel.

For a moment, none of us moved.

Finally, he whispered:

“My girls.”

I wanted to hit him.

Hug him.

Demand answers.

Instead I asked one question.

“Why?”

He looked at me.

“Because the people who killed your mother are still alive.”

“She isn't dead.”

His expression changed.

“You found her.”

“Yes.”

“Then you are running out of time.”

Dante stepped forward.

“Who is behind this?”

My father looked at him.

Then at me.

“There is one person who knew everything.”

“Who?”

He opened a file.

Inside was a photograph.

It showed Victor Rinaldi.

But the photograph wasn't the shocking part.

Beside Victor stood Carlo Moretti.

And beside Carlo stood a third man.

A politician.

One of the most powerful men in the country.

I recognized him immediately.

My father whispered:

“He ordered Isabella's murder.”

I stared.

“Why?”

“Because Isabella discovered the truth.”

“What truth?”

My father looked at Gabriel.

“Gabriel isn't just your son.”

I froze.

“He is the grandson of the man who runs the entire network.”

Dante's face hardened.

“Who?”

My father looked directly at me.

Then he said the name.

The same name that had appeared on every hidden document.

Every account.

Every death record.

Every lie.

A name I had heard only once as a child.

A name that had been buried so deeply that even I had forgotten it.

My father's final words came quietly.

“The real enemy is your uncle.”

I stared.

“My uncle?”

He nodded.

“The twin brother of your father.”

The room went silent.

Then the warehouse lights suddenly turned on.

Hundreds of screens lit the walls.

Every screen showed the same image.

My mother.

Alive.

Tied to a chair.

A man stepped into frame behind her.

He had my eyes.

My father's smile.

And the same tiny dimple in his cheek.

He leaned toward the camera.

“Hello, Elina.”

I stopped breathing.

He smiled.

“I've been waiting twenty-four years to meet my niece.”

The screen went black.

Dante reached for his weapon.

Isabella grabbed my arm.

And Gabriel woke up crying.

Because somewhere in that building, a man who had spent twenty-four years searching for me had finally found me.

And this time...

He didn't want my blood.

He wanted me alive.

Until he could make me unlock everything my family had buried.

Everything.

May you like

Including the secret that had started this entire nightmare.

The truth about why my twin and I had been separated in the first place.
