Chapter 15 - Two LogansThe room exploded into chaos.

Marcus fired.

Both Logans dove in opposite directions.

Eli screamed.

“Which one is my dad?”

I grabbed him.

“Stay with me!”

The two men stared at each other.

One had the scar.

One didn't.

The scarred man shouted:

“Colin, look at the tattoo!”

The other fired.

Marcus shot back.

The bullet struck the wall.

I noticed something.

The unscarred Logan wore a silver ring.

My blood froze.

“Drop the weapon!”

The unscarred man smiled.

“You finally remembered.”

The scarred Logan tackled him.

They crashed into the floor.

Eli screamed:

“Daddy!”

He ran toward the scarred man.

That was enough.

I shot the silver ring off the other man's finger.

He cursed.

His face changed.

A synthetic mask peeled away.

Not Logan.

A body double.

A Warden operative.

He laughed.

“You're getting better.”

Marcus restrained him.

“Where's the real Logan?”

The man smiled.

“Already gone.”

“What?”

He looked at the countdown.

“Reset Eight needs him dead.”

The timer showed four hours.

We found Logan unconscious in the basement.

He had been injected.

Evelyn rushed toward him.

“What did they use?”

“Memory suppressant.”

She froze.

“There isn't enough time.”

“Then wake him.”

“I can't.”

I grabbed her.

“You built this.”

“Yes.”

“Then fix it.”

She looked at me.

“There is one way.”

“What?”

“We have to trigger your original memory manually.”

“How?”

“Your tattoo.”

She brought out a needle.

I held still.

The needle touched the center of the tattoo.

Pain exploded through my arm.

Then everything came back.

I remembered being twenty-nine.

I remembered discovering Helix.

I remembered Eli's birth.

I remembered my father.

I remembered Logan.

And finally...

I remembered the night at Blackwater Bridge.

I hadn't killed Eli's mother.

I had watched her die.

The person holding the gun was...

Evelyn.

I opened my eyes.

“You killed her.”

Evelyn didn't deny it.

“She was about to expose us.”

“You erased my memory.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you couldn't live with what came next.”

“What came next?”

She looked at Logan.

“He did it.”

Logan opened his eyes.

Tears filled them.

“I killed Dad.”

I froze.

“What?”

He whispered:

“Our father became the head of the Wardens.”

He had killed him to stop the program.

And I had agreed to forget.

Not because I was innocent.

Because I had helped him.

I remembered the gun.

The bridge.

The blood.

The promise.

Then Logan said the words that shattered everything.

“We didn't erase your memory to protect you, Colin.”

“We erased it because…”

May you like

He struggled to breathe.

“You were Helix.”
